Introduction:
The Bangladesh Institute for Professional Development (BIPD) is an IDRA accredited education & training institute which was established in 2015. It is incorporated as a legal entity under the Companies Act. The general objective of the BIPD is to promote human capital development through conducting training, workshop, research, education and other professional activities. So far BIPD has organized various workshops and courses & trained more than 38,000 participants. BIPD has successfully completed national / regional / international seminars, conferences and workshops since 2016.
Course Context:
Handling of marine cargo risks and insurance are very critical and sensitive in international trade & commerce. It is generally perceived that the claimants are always aggrieved this is not the case.
Marine cargo insurance is subject to various terms and conditions. There are also different types of cargo, types of loss, hazards and perils. It is very important that judicious handling of cargo, conducting surveys, selections of risk covers, proper understanding of risks and claims process need to be done prudently.
There are several parties involved in the process. The manufactures, shippers, shipping agents, importers, ship owners, surveyors, bankers and insurance companies, re-insurers ought to be much concerned about the laws, rules and practices related to international and internal trade, commerce.
This course has been specially designed for the benefits of all parties involved. Who must be acquainted with the intricacies of trade practice, risk handling, appropriate risks cover. Claim settlement process, loss assessment, loss adjustment, loss recovery, loss minimization are very important aspects of marine cargo claims. All these will be discussed in details with practical example.

Course fee:
We are offering a fee (excluding vat & tax) Tk. 450 /- (Net) per participant. If 2 to 4 persons join from one organizations, the course fee will be TK. 400/- (Net) per participant. For 5 or more from same organization per participant’s fee has been fixed at Tk. 350/- (Net)

Kazi Mohammad Mortuza Ali, is the Director General of Bangladesh Institute for Professional Development (BIPD). He is an Associate of Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) London by examination and a graduate in “Professional shipping” from Norwegian Shipping Academy Oslo. He is a law graduate & post graduate in Industrial Management.
He served as specialist member of the “Committee” formed by the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh for reforming Insurance laws and enacting new laws. He also served as Member of the “Committee” formed by the Honorable President’s Secretariat of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to investigate an alleged “Marine Insurance Claim & Maritime Fraud”.
Mr. Mortuza Ali has provided Consultancy Service under ADB and WHO projects as “Insurance Regulatory Specialist” and “Social Health Insurance Consultant”. Presently he is serving as Sub-consultant of World Bank Project (Bangladesh Insurance Sector Development).
He served as the member of Governance and Ethics Committee of the Board of Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) based in Manama and member of the Development Committee of International Co-operative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF), London.

The author was brought up and educated in Dhaka. He obtained his master’s degree from the University of Dhaka. He was a resident of Dubai (U.A.E.) for over three decades. During this time he worked for several multinational insurance companies in various capacities.
He is a fellow (FCII) of The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) in London. He is also an associate (AIRM) of The Institute of Risk Management (IRM) in London and an associate (ACIArb) of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) in London. He is a Chartered Insurance Practitioner by profession. He is currently engaged in teaching and training insurance personnel.
He has published several books on insurance. The books have been widely acclaimed both at home and abroad.
